The name of The Royal Arch pub comes from The Royal Arch monument built in Dundee during the 1840s to celebrate the visit of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert.
The Royal Arch Masonic Lodge was situated across the road. The Royal Arch monument was demolished in the 1960s to make way for the Tay Road Bridge, however a fragment of this Victorian arch is on display at the bar. The pub consists of a traditional public bar with an authentic hand carved solid oak gantry from 1849. Originally the Railway Tavern, the building retains its classical architecture from the mid-1800s. The comfortable and homely lounge, which was converted from stables, is decorated in Art Deco style with stained glass windows and ceiling panels depicting the Broughty Ferry landscape.
