The Haymarket pub was built in a late Georgian to early Victorian style and occupies a sweeping corner spot with a fine view of the world.
This is where Edinburgh’s haymarket used to be held and at the western end of this bustling market square is the City’s first railway station, Haymarket, which opened in 1842. The pub is also close Murrayfield Stadium, the home of Scottish rugby. Directly outside the pub stands the Haymarket Clock. This is a memorial to Edinburgh’s Heart of Midlothian football team of 1914 that signed up en masse to fight in the First World War. They were the first British team to display such patriotic unity and it is all the more memorable as they were on course to win the football cup that year.
