Perched above the railway station and ferry terminal, the Kempock has long been a landmark for locals and travellers alike.
The pub is said to possess the best jukebox selection in the west of Scotland – partly because regulars are allowed to deposit their own CDs inside it in order that they can listen to their own music whilst in the bar. The Kempock’s host, Jim Robertson, once played drums in the sixties group The Silhouettes, and is still known to occupy the drummer’s stool during the pub’s occasional Sunday jam sessions. Its location and welcome have been known to attract many celebrities including Robbie Coltrane, Richard Wilson and Marti Pellow.
‘features as an occasional location in the BBC drama Waterloo Road’
The pub has a large, eclectic and varied whisky selection and is one of The Famous Grouse’s Famous 100 British Pubs. Many of you may recognise the inside of The Kempock because it features as an occasional location in the BBC drama Waterloo Road. It is one of the most celebrated pubs in Gourock and is a home from home with the best jukebox selection in Scotland.
