Castle Tavern is situated directly opposite the historic Inverness Castle and at the end of the Great Glen. We issue a certificate of achievement to all walkers who visit the Tavern and have completed the 73 mile trek from Fort William to Inverness.
Outside the pub we have a life size fibre glass mould of Johnnie Walker, also known as the Striding Man. He was one of the first globally established advertising icons, created in 1908 by the artist Tom Browne for the whisky brand Johnnie Walker. He sits on a plinth and is often more photographed than the castle during the summer months.
‘we have a life size fibre glass mould of Johnnie Walker’
Three years ago Johnnie went missing and such is his importance that the matter was put into the hands of the local constabulary and the media took an active interest in him as a missing person. He was eventually discovered, decapitated, in a car park and it took some time to locate his head, which was found in a garden. Today he has been returned to his full splendour and is back in his rightful place welcoming all our patrons. Some come and have your photograph taken, as Johnnie Walker is still going strong.
